In the winter of 2006 while taking a walk on
Water Street I noticed a "for rent" sign
in a tiny little shop that was once the
Bank of Stonington.
I had been on a search for the perfect location
to open a jewelry and accessories shop
and couldn't believe that this little storefront
was available!
Having just completed another chapter in my
professional career in the jewelry industry I was
ready for a change and a chance to be my
own "boss".
And so......Zia's was born.
Zia, by the way is my cat and the real owner of
the business. She chooses not to work
at the business and allows me the privilege
of running the shop!
In November of 2008 we made the decision to
change the format of the store to $10 or less
for all items, everyday.
Now it's 2011 and time for a little more evolution!
So many of our customers have asked for things like coats and big handbags. We listened!

Zia's Backroom is now specialty apparel and accessories at 50% - 70% off suggested retails!
